  A welcome message to our students in assembly on the first day

 

          Good morning, teachers and students. I am glad today for two reasons, firstly all of you come back to school safe and sound, and secondly it is my first time as your principal to give you a welcome message at the beginning of new school year. As all of you may know, there are so many challenges in the world every day, everyone faces different challenges, including you and me; but we can not only stand still or doing nothing, we’re better to find out the present situation, set ourselves a target, plan the schedule and execute the plan. As a group of more than 1000 people, we share what we have prepared and ‘we learn, we serve and we lead’. Taking today’s assembly as an example,   I decide to speak in English today, not because I can speak fluent English, but I have the responsibility to enrich the ‘Learning English Environment’ in school, so I ask myself, ‘What can I do?’, and I decide to speak to all of you here (in assembly) in English, but it will not be enough to change the situation nowadays without your participation,  so I urge and encourage you all to speak English as much as possible inside school campus and outside school; and I’ll not only speak to you in English today, I promise you to speak to you in English at least once a month. I also encourage you speaking Putonghua and Cantonese too, to communicate with your teachers; talk to your parents and classmates at the right time, not during lesson. Finally, to summary what I’ve told you,
1.    A warm Welcome to all of you,
2.    The world is full of challenges but,
3.    You have to be brave, set yourself target,
4.    You get yourself prepared, to think, to plan and to execute,
5.    At last, I wish all of you having a prosperous year ahead.


校長於開學首天向同學致歡迎詞
 
        各位老師、同學，早晨！今早我有兩個高興的原因，第一個是看見大家安然無恙的返抵學校，第二，這是我以校長身份在開學首天向各位同學致歡迎詞。相信大家會同意，世上每人（包括你和我）每天均會遇上挑戰，而我們不能只期待「以靜制動」，便解決問題或「坐以待斃」；反之，我們需要了解現況、訂立目標、制定計劃並付諸行動。我校共約1000人，我們每天分享我們早作準備的得著，實踐校訓「勤學、服務、領導」。以今早我用英語致詞的原因為例，並非因能講流利英語，而是我有責任營造英語學習的語境，所以，我反問自己可以怎麼？最終我決定以英語進行早會，不單只是這一次，是每月最少一次；但這仍不足以改變現況，因此我鞭策及鼓勵各位同學在校園範圍內多講英語、甚至校園以外也多講。同樣地，我呼籲同學多講普通話、廣東話（學生需要在「中學文憑試」用廣東話進行口試會考），與老師、家長甚至於同學於恰當的時候談話（當然不應在課堂上隨意談話）。最後，我撮要今早的說話內容﹕
1.    親切地歡迎各位同學
2.    當今世上處處充滿挑戰
3.    要勇敢地面對挑戰，訂立個人目標
4.    要思考、計劃和實踐，努力裝備好自己
5.    最後，祝願各位同學有收穫豐盛的一年
